You know it’s funny…some of the best recipes I have from my friend Becky are from her either bringing us a treat or dinner, or my kids being fed at her house and coming home and saying, “Mom, you NEED to get that recipe from her! Dinner was so delicious!” She serves by feeding us, then serves again by giving me the recipe! About a week before Valentine’s Day this year her family brought over these most amazing sugar cookies. I’m off sugar right now and have been for months but I crumpled when I saw those chewy cookies with the thick pink butter-cream frosting. Why do treats taste better in pastel colors? They are truly THE BEST sugar cookies ever! Use a royal icing recipe for beautiful decorating like the examples below. Use butter-cream frosting for deliciousness.
- 1 c butter
- 2 c sugar
- 1 c sour cream
- 2 eggs
- 1 t vanilla
- ½ t soda
- 4 t baking powder
- ½ t salt
- 4 ½ - 5 ½ c flour (add closer to 5 ½)
- Combine all ingredients and chill in fridge 1 hr or overnight.
- Cook less than ten minutes or until there is the slightest hint of golden on the edges. Do not let the cookies brown.
- Frost with a butter-cream frosting for best taste or royal icing for best look.
- Makes about 2 dozen cookies cut with Wilton 4x4 inch heart cutter
